CASE STUDY: BHP Trainee Program

Since 2017, JobTrail has worked with BHP at their corporate office in Brisbane to run a school based trainee program. Each participant has been employed to complete a Cert III in Business Administration over a 2 year period covering Grade 11 and 12.

Initially, the students were interviewed by JobTrail at their respective schools with the Careers Officer present before progressing to the next stage with an interview with BHP at their offices.

Working 1 day per week, the participants have all worked in different divisions of BHP with some examples including Planning & Technical, HR and the Maintenance Centre of Excellence.

The program has been highly successful with the collaboration of students, school representatives, parents, BHP supervisors, BHP’s Indigenous Employment team, Axial Training, Busy at Work, JobTrail and WorkPac.
